HELLO, (is that weird to say hello on a blog?)
(No this is not a postcard. It is where I spent my day)
So today we went to Rum Point, kinda. Rum Point is a large sandbar where most of the people (natives and tourists) go on Sundays because the Island is pretty much shut down (due to religious reasons I Think.) The actually "Point" is a roped in beach with 3 separate bars and tons and tons of HAMMOCKS!! The best way to get there is by boat and we went out on a large catamaran.....
Captained by "Uncle Chip", which made me a little homesick because that is what my cousin Kim refers to my dad as. (Did you catch that?)
This is Chips boat, he does daily tours to Rum Point and Sting Ray City during the week and takes his friends and family out on Sundays. We were lucky enough to be invited as guests of Chris (our previous and current boss) his wife Diana and his daughter Isa. We didn't actually dock at Rum Point because we had some children with us, but we did get to walk along the sandbar and see it. Spectacular.
The place was amazing, something right out of movie, the adults played some frisbee, relaxed in chairs and as I walked around I noticed something I think my father would LOVE...
Ohhhh yes, that is a GRILL attached to a boat with a side of fresh coconuts. Where else can you see something like that? Possibly in a dream, but if this was a dream Id be super tan and everything I touched would turn into money. Caymen Money. And that didn't happen....But speaking of being super tan, for those who don't know I have Polymorphuslighteruption, aka Im allergic to the sun. (Why would someone who is allergic to the sun move to a caribbean island? Because Im bad-ass thats why)
So I lathered myself with 60 sunblock three times during the day and would have been ok if I hadn't FORGOT to reapply it on my back the third time. Soo now I have a raging uncomfortable awkwardly shaped sunburn on the top half of my back and shoulders and am just hoping that I don't get a rash. Cross your fingers for me people!!!
Anyway on with the day..when we got back from the boat excursion we went for a drive around the island and came upon the "Shoe Tree" The story goes if you find a lone sandal/shoe or can only find one of your shoes/sandals you can come here and nail it to the tree...have a shoe, give a shoe; need a shoe take a shoe, kind of thing...
And finally for the last "sight-seeing" adventure of the day Chris took us to a "Shipwreck". He said that back many moons ago (haha remember when people viewed time in moons?) British ships used to sail here to collect the taxes from the Caymen residents, and one of those large ships crashed into a reef, 10 people died and the boat was dystroyed. That was the last time a ship came to the Island for that purpose and that was also the end of taxes. (apparently the British were superstitious) Well I LOVE shipwrecks and was super excited to see it...we walked up a little bush lined pathway onto this stone monument and this is what we saw...
Ohhh what? You cant see the shipwreck? Well thats what I said to Chris and he said "Sara are you serious? look over to the left" So I did, and I replied.."Chris are YOU serious?" I actually took a "closeup" of the shipwreck just so you could all see...
Yeah, great shipwreck. Soo glad I listened to him when he told me to bring my camera. But actually its one of the BEST diving (scuba diving) spots, and as soon as I get my waterproof camera's battery (oh yes I forgot it at home) Im all over it.
Ok well tomorrow is my first day of training...Wish me luck!!!
